Jerusalem artichoke

My  Jerusalem artichokes have all fallen over due to the strong winds we had do you think the tubers will still grow or should I dig them up.😉

Hello.
If the stems haven't snapped they may well still continue growing for a while longer.
I find that they don't store at all well out of the ground. They shrivel and soften.
I leave mine and dig as I need them. As long as there are no mice and the winter isn't too wet that works for me.
Would be interested to hear what others do though.

Yes, definitely better in the ground than out, I have frozen some but they are better fresh. Tough as old boots so I'm sure at this time of year they will be ok where they are.

we used to grow Jerusalem artichoke down the allotments never dug them and ended up with quite a few then shock horror they where all dug up and eaten by Badgers we never thought to put any fencing round the crop


 we haven't grew any artichoke since that but we mite have another go next year I'm not sure what to do with artichoke so far as cooking and surving is concerned :unsure:

any advise please  ;)

Another for leaving them until needed. As for using: chips, roasted and in stews and soups. Carrot and artichoke soup is one of our favourites, although only in strictly restricted quantities!
