When do young cockerels ............
« on: December 01, 2012, 17:20 »
One of my young cockerels is only 11 weeks old and is trying his luck with my 31 week old bantams.  They haven't started laying yet but maybe this will encourage them to start laying.

How old was the youngest cockerel you have known?

Crikey he's keen

Can see him getting batted across the garden by the girls mind    My little Serama boys first met the girls on combined garden runs when they were about that age, but they were made clear on where they stood in the pecking order very fast

I thought it was really early.  Don't know how long he has been like this as it was the first time I have witnessed it.

My bantam cockerels earlier in the year were 16 weeks old and I thought that was young.  They were fertile as well as I have one little Light Sussex x Partridge Wyandotte bantam as a result.  I think that is also a cockerel and is 12 weeks old but no signs of him maturing yet, he is still with his Mum.

He certainly has earned his keep.  I only had two of my 8 pullets/hens laying so the extra egg is very welcome.

The egg is small but perfectly formed and a lovely colour.

I think yours have been sending good vibes this way as another one of my new girls laid their 1st egg today.

Must be something in the air (other than frost anyway)
