If you want some free planters get friendly with your local Tropical Fish shop.  Tropical Fish are transported in bags but the bags are put in Polystyrene boxes.  These vary in size but most are at least 18-24 inches across and at least 12 inches deep.  Most shops will give you them if you ask.
