my daughter has two goldfish which are kept in a bio orb. W change the filter monthly and have never had a problem with cloudy water. Recently pets at home stopped stocking their own make fish pellets and we have had to feed flakes. Some of the flakes sink to the bottom of the orb and this seems to be making the bowl dirty quickly. Can anyone recommend a suitable fish food that keeps the water cleaner?
thanks Daisy

If the goldfish are allowing the flakes to get to the bottom, then perhaps you are overfeeding them. It`s very common to feed too much so I suggest just a tiny pinch and see how you go.

Your overfeeding
Also, filters *REALLY* arent disposable items.
If your having to replace it everymonth, you've got a very naff filter.
Its actualy important to keep the filter media, but you'd be better on a proper fish forum for that.

BioOrb recommend changing the filter monthly (it is a plastic and paper filter so is meant to be disposable I presume). We changed it monthly before the feed change. I dont think we are overfeeding the goldfish are large and we only give them a small pinch twice a day. The fish see the food and bite the flake but then half of it sinks to the bottom before they can catch it. I have now found pellets on Amazon so will give them a try
Thanks for your suggestions

Trust me, you will be....
Its difficult to underfeed fish. My goldfish went two weeks without feed before I got them

OK less is more- will give it a try!

It may be the new feed is more filling!
I do remember having a very forgetful week once years ago when I was meant to be 'Goldfish sitting'- and sort of forgot for a few days. (was working nights at the time, made my memory much worse!)
When the owners came back they were so pleased that I had cleaned all the algae off of the inside of the bowl (UM.... think that was a hungry goldfish!)

I've taken back control of the fish feeding from my mum and they're both doing fine in a nice clean tank =)

Must say we feed our 3 goldfish a small pinch once every other day, all has seen fine for the 3 years we have had them and we have a lovely clean bowl.
