Nah bung 'em in whatever you can get you still have a week or so before it's far to late, I'm still planting mine just got my pink fir apple to go in, last 30ish tubers out of 250 or so    went a bit mad

Thinking about it earlies may suit you better if you can still get them, I know my place still has a few earlies and maincrop.

sorry to hijack thread but would it be ok to just dig a hole with one of those bulb planters then deepen slightly add some manure and drop pot into hole rather than digging whole area over? Just I have heaps of stuff and glyphosphated the weeds over two weeks ago. Really need to get something in to keep me going now after all the wet weather etc?

I'd give it a go Swee'pea as long as you leave a couple of foot between the rows, that way you can fork that over and use it for earthing up, dont go more than about 4" down IMHO, It would be better to fork it all over but like you say with all the wet weather etc nothing ventured, nothing gained  :D

We've still got our main crop to go in, only got the second earlies in yesterday. If it grows, it will grow, you can only work with the weather.

Hi Swee'pea,

I planted my earlies with the bulb planter method and they are doing really well. I did it this way as the soil was really wet and heavy. Hoeing out trenches would have been very hard work. I left 2' between rows and just earthed them up as they popped through. Some of the old timers at our site thought I was mad but they have since been very complimentary!
