Hi all, the eel worms have killed my maincrop of spuds! Have dug up the last few left in the bed, what can I plant in this bed now and is there anything else I need to do before I plant stuff in it???

I need to put stuff in it because we are short on space.

Cannot help with what to plant but google eel worms and see what they attack.
Then plant something different.

Problemis that it is getting a bit late for the usual items. Would have said carrots but suspect that being a root crop eel worms would munch on them.

What about kale or red cabbage, I have some of that nearly ready?

Can you spare that area to grow mustard it helps get rid of eelworm

Thanks, will consider it. Im a bit reluctant to green manure, with it being our first six months on the plot we are really short on space but if it's going to be better for the long run!

The eelworms that attack potatoes only live on potatoes and tomatoes. All other crops are safe.

I presume that your plot has been cultivated for many years to allow eelworm to build up. The only way to reduce the eelworm is not to grow potatoes for 5 or 6 years.

You could always try some eelworm resistant potatoes in a few years time.....all the potato databases say which varieties are resistant
