Some types of quail are seasonal layers. Do you have quail then - if so what breeds (please use the correct names and not abbreviations) and how about posting a photograph of them?
Staffies are softer than you think.

Most quail won't lay in bad weather (Japanese quail at least, I don't know anything about any other type) , as soon as ours see rain and it gets cold they give up and don't lay again until it's warm.
Last year ours stopped in september and didn't start again until around March. This is because they need a lot of light for their egg production (much more than chickens) Some people keep them under lamps to keep them laying, but we just let them get on with it and have a break over winter.

As for when they stop laying altogether i'm not entirely sure, my oldest quail are only 18 months now so haven't reached that stage. But I presume they're like chickens and are born with all the eggs they're going to lay, so will stop when they have all been laid. (I'm sure someone else will correct me  if i'm wrong =) )

Nice to be able to advise my daughter (Mulberry!) whilst Quail can live for 4-5 years, their egg production usually starts to wane after a year of laying so by the time Quail are 18 months old they will not lay many eggs and as she says stop laying if they have less than 14 hours of light a day.  Probably whay Quail eggs are so expensive to buy!
3 dogs, 8 chickens, 4 rabbits 2 guinea pigs, 10 quail, 2 fish and a demanding daughter who has gone to uni and left me with 29 animals to care for!!=)
