Broody hens and new hens help please
« on: July 11, 2009, 08:12 »
Hello, this is my 1st post so I hope its ok to start with questions.
we have two hens who are inseperable and for mainly that reason we planned to get two more about now (time is good fits in well with work, holiday etc.) However Pecky is broody and has been despite my best efforts for the last 6 weeks. Doris who isn't broody has gone off lay and just mopes around after Pecky.
So here's my question would introducing new hens at this stage be a bad idea? Will Pecky become more protective of her imaginary egg? Or might it be a good time because I can easily keep them seperated from the new two ? I would very much appreciate your thoughts. Thanks.

I'd go for it now :)

If you wait till she stops being broody i think you'll find they'll pick on the two new ones more :(

It might even break her broodiness :D

Welcome to the Hen House by the way :D
