myself and my husband went to selby  livestock auctions this morning, when we arrived we were told that no poultry was being auctioned because of an outbreak of bird flu in wales, however the sale of quail still went ahead and 2 goslings also went through, i would have thought that quail and goslings fell under the category of poultry, and no poultry sale should mean NO POULTRY.

i would say to telephone DEFRA in the morning. they will be able to tell you 100% either way if there is an outbreak in your area. and if anyone knows they will. its what they are for.

was it a member of the auction staff, or just another bidder.

even if you only have a few chickens, its a good idea to register with DEFRA as they will then inform you of any problems they may effect you and any action you can taken quicker than waiting for rumours etc to get to you.

the auctioneer quite happily sold the quail and the goslings.
thanks for the advice i will register with defra tomorrow, i only have 20 birds but as you say i will get info 1st hand.
