hen in a trance?
« on: July 12, 2012, 15:44 »
I have one very tame hen, she is a big light sussex. She is like a dog. She loves being hugged and having her wattles stroked and her head tickled and happily falls asleep on you lap. Her comb is very red and she is healthy. When I picked her up today, she sat on my lap and fell asleep whil I stroked her, then I noticed the colour drain from her face. earlobes, wattles and some of her comb? does this happen when theyre relaxed I wonder? I doubt she's unhappy as shes obviously blissful when I do it. Anyone experienced this before?

did the colour come back pretty quickly when she woke? I wonder if she went into such a deep sleep that her heartbeat slowed down a little bit too much.

yeah as soon as she jumped off my knee she went back to bright red again! the slowed heartbeat makes sense, just wondered if anyone else had noticed that before.
