any ideas please??
« on: May 21, 2011, 18:18 »
I have several large plastic tubes (six in fact) that were used for transporting fishing rods I have kept them for the last year but feel that they could be useful for something but I don't know what!! any ideas welcome before I "dispose" of them
some people are like slinkys......they're really good for nothing, but they still bring a smile to your face as you push them down the stairs!!

Lo Starry... It depends what diameter they are I suppose... I grow parsnips/carrots in piping, but they are 4" diameter and cut to a metre long....  :)

Yes, what length/width are they? I was thinking about using old downpipe, cut into say, 12" lengths and sink them next to squash plants etc, for watering through. Needless to say I haven't got any old downpipe and it's highly unlikely I will ever get around to it....

They are a good 6' high and are mostly about 3-4" in diameter I was going to  use them for growing peas but decided against this (long story) I just think they look to useful to throw a away!!

Fruit cage sounds good. How about filling with compost, put holes in and plant strawberries or herbs through the holes to grow vertically. You could stand them upright in a corner of your plot and not take up much room yet still have a decent amount of stuff growing?

lol! you sound just like me. Our garage and out house (and shed and loft) are full of things i think might be useful! Might have a root through and see what i see,  see what inspires me. As for your pipe type things i like the idea of growing strawberries vertically - although you would need to make a really sold base out of something to stop them falling over.

well thank you all very good suggestions but none that really wows me (sorry :( ) I think I will keep them for a bit longer or pretend to  throw them away     I have discovered from past experience that I always find a use for something just as I have thrown it away !!

Irrigation tubes for strawberry planters - cut to length, perforate prolifically, and plant into centre of tub when backfilling it with soil. Water down centre of tubpe
