Title: Yet another hen poorly..... UPDATE
Post by: Oliveview on January 07, 2009, 12:56
I am having a bad day-  this just makes me even more fed up.

One of our ´new´ hens around 5 months old I would guess, who isn´t laying yet (we don´t think anyway)  is very fluffed up, she was sitting on the floor of the hen house while the other girls were outside eating the scraps I had just put out (bread, softened with hot water and added cream)
She has no sign of any lice, no temperature, her eyes look bright, she is just sitting low to the ground and all fluffed up (she looks huge)  She doesn´t feel underweight, she seems quite a chunky bird (bit like me) she has no sign of poo at her rear end, I had a look the best I could up her vent (?)  there is no sign of an egg.  I´ve put her in the medical suite (box in the garage) with plenty of straw to keep her warm, antibiotics in the water (if she drinks it) and just hope for the best.  The only thing I can see with her is she has ´scabby´ legs, they are beginning to flake a bit.
Sorry to keep asking about my hen problems.
Pamela

I just went in to check on the poorly girl and she has laid an egg :D   Could this be why she was looking all stange?  Her possibly first egg?  She isn´t sitting so close to the ground now :D   I´ll leave her in the medical suite for another day or so to see if she is ok.

I was hoping that was what it was (our sandra mopes around too- like a grumpy teenager!)
I'll keep my fingers crossed though, just in case.

Hope she's all better now that she has got that out of her system so to speak :D
