Hen len...
« on: October 28, 2019, 18:37 »
When I was four, I went to a small school in my village. I was the first pupil there, and there were four of us boys by the end of the term!

The lady in charge, was a staunch no-nonsense sort, a fantastic expert with Arab Stallions, and just loved small boys mucking around all the time; but she had a stern appearance, and we never did make too much mayhem.

One day, we were taught to re-enact the 'Sky falling down on my head' story. Now, this is where Mrs Growster and I always argue the toss. I say that the lead part was 'Hen-Len', where she says it was 'Henny-Penny'!

We had 'Duck-Luck, and 'Goose-loose', and 'Gander-Lander', but Mrs Growster says it was 'Ducky-Lucky and Goosey-Loosey' etc! (She was a kindergarten teacher for many years)!

Various fights occur when the subject crops up at 'The Turrets', usually decided by three falls or a submission in the form of a tincture, but I'm convinced I'm right! Also, my dear old teacher wouldn't ever have ever let her small boys have such 'girly' names in such an important play!

What do others remember about this barnstormer?

I'm sorry but I agree with Mrs. G. Henny-Penny and Goosey-loosey.

With Henny-Penny, Ducky-Lucky, Goosey-Lucy. Drakey-Lakey, Turkey-Lurkey and Focy-Loxy. Their going to tell the King their hysterical the sky is falling down and actually get munched.

Blast!

I remember the Chicken Licken bit, (KFC anyone)?, but the rest are definitely the ones I remember (I think)!

Mrs Growster hasn't let me forget this since I told her...

This was all happening in 1950...

I remember it as Chicken-Licken too (1970's)  ::) :)
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

We definitely had a 'Gander-Lander', as he was one of my friends at the time! You just couldn't have 'Gandery-Landery', now could you!

Thinking back a couple of years, I posted here about a song from the same village school, with the immortal line: -

'Little lambkin, woolly lambkin,
With your fleece soft and clean,
Come and welcome Lady Springtime,
As she skips in the fields'.

I think my old Headmistress took the various themes and then made up her own words! Bless...
