Ok heres a run down of the seeds I have ready for planting out and I need advice.
1. Runner Bean Enorma
2. Swede Marian
3. Cabbage Savoy Perfection
4. Cauliflower ( All year round )?
5. Broccoli Green Sprouting Calabrese
6. Parsnip Gladiator
7. Brussel Sprouts Mezzo Nano
8. Beetroot Boltardy
9.Onions Red Burgundy & White Spanish ( Seed ) but I got some bulbs to so will the seeds keep? )
10. Carrot Rainbow mix & Fly away F1
11. Pea Feltham First
If you check the pictures of the growing area I have I am hoping someone can advise on the best places to plant these seeds and what can go together I am looking to plant the Carrots in my raised bed.
need to know spacings as these need to go in the ground. Am still waiting for the potatoes grow bags and seeds to come they are leaving it a bit late to post..
Ideas please.

Unless the impression I have formed is wrong, I reckon you may be being a bit ambitious.
Nothing wrong with ambition of course, just I had got the impression that you hadn't got that much space.

Yes, save the onion seed for next year.
I think you should have space for all of that BUT you really will only be able to grow a few of each. With the carrots you should be able to get three crops this year.

Sorry was in a rush to get to work yesterday and didn't explain fully I am not going to use all the seeds this year as I don't have the space just wanted to know the best general areas to plant them.

I got this area to

Just not sure of the best planting arrangement Plus what ells can I plant ones the cabbage etc are harvested so I get the best possible use out of a small space? I like most root veg.

You could get some radish and rocket seeds. They are really fast growing, I use them to fill any gaps in the garden until something else is ready to go in.

thanks for the tips have never had Rocket believe it or not. I like Radish but gives me indigestion ;) but hey what the heck I'll go with those.

God love you - I like your optimism for the space you have! Just remember that the brassica family (including swedes) produce big leaves that produce a lot of shade and take up a lot of space too. You could grow both carrots and leeks in your raised bed - recommended to help avoid carrot fly too. You can get small cabbage varieties and also short broad beans and sprouts. You may get a crop of small beetroot after harvesting early summer cabbage. Against the fence, which way does it face? I have grown sugar snap peas sucessfully in a partly-shaded area which are lovely and can be supported by your fence. Some broad beans could fit in here and help support the peas. My best advice is not to try too many of each plant but limit yourself to just a few of those that grow quite big. That way, you will get a better idea of things for the following year, what spaces you could have used better, what space you ran out of, what you could have tried using after harvesting. That way, you won't be disappointed by overcrowding things which may lead to disease and/or poor crops. The very best of luck.

First check the seed packets for how close in a row you can plant your varieties.
If it was my little plot I'd do rows from the little path back towards the fence.
plant a row of savoy cabbage 18in away from the fence then an 18in gap to
a row of swede 18in gap
a row of autumn broccoli 18in gap
a row of parsnip 18in gap to box bed
That's 7ft 6in....is there enough room?
In the box bed sow carrots and plant onions, and in the little cross bed sow your beetroots
and peas (You'll only get a taste of peas in the little space) in a long row each.
Try a couple of BB plants and a couple of Brussels at the back and see how they do.
You and others will probably have different plans, but that's what I'd do ;)
All of the crops that you have chosen, except the carrots) will be there from spring until autumn/winter, so I doubt you'd get much in the way of a follow on crop in the same year.

I got no real plans at the moment so all advice is welcome I got the measurements for more help

BTW I just checked the packets and as they where from an online shop they just say packaged 2010 sow by Dec 2012 oh dear now I have to find out when I need to start sowing each variety of seeds I got :blush: :blush: :blush:

Never rains but it pours huh Bill :D Never mind, whilst you're checking the variety sowing times the grounds drying out and hopefully the weathers warming up.

There are some posts from last year where a user has done square foot gardening in her front garden - the name escapes me at the moment.
Its certainly worth a look, Id throw out the packet instructions on spacing and any ideas you may have of large areas of a specific crop. You really only have enough space for a taster of things. Lots of squares, sucessionally planted with a low volume of crops.

Ok because of a lack of space I have decided to go with this.
Runner beans and Sprouts along the fence.
Onions and Carrots in the raised bed.
Broccoli and Cauliflower in the 7 by 8
Swede in the 3 by 9 with a couple of beets as I don't like them but the wife does.
still waiting for the potatoes bags and potatoes due before the end of march the letter says? we will see.
Going to do some leeks If I can find a spot for them as we like leeks.
I've got a couple of large tubs and thinking Tomatoes if they can be grown outside, and maybe the leeks in one?
Anyway that's the plan

You could always cover the patio with tubs or raised beds to increase growing space...

I don't have a patio :D and I don't think the dog ferrets or the wife would be too happy if I took up the last bit of the garden :wub: :wub:

Bill, its as good a plan as any to start with.
As you start looking at the sowing and final planting distances you may find your plan changing.
As a grower with limited space like yourself I found it took me a while to get the plan right, and I still try and cram more than I should in :D But heyho, it works for us and hopefully it will for you.
