doesn't go to bed
« on: March 24, 2009, 08:50 »
Hi

I am new to chickens and have got 3 girls, a Red Aracana, bantam buff Brahma and a buff Orpington, at dusk to go into the chicken house but the Orpington just sits in the pop hole all night, Should I put her inside or just leave her there?, the run is secure.

Hello, Speedy Chick,
Welcome to the Plot.
Personally, I would lift her onto the roosting perch, just to give her the idea, even if for a few evenings, then leave her to figure which is best.
On frosty, windy nights, you would probably want to shut the pop-hole.  Although they grow their own duvets, they hate draughts.
Best wishes.

Good advice- I'd try her on the perch to show her what to do for a few nights too
