depends on how much you need really.  Ebay and other internet sites have lots of large amounts at very reasonable prices.  I don't really need much so ended up getting some 10mm netting from Homebase which was £8.99 for 8m and 4m.

I got some 4m x 5m green netting from the pound store in Southport last week, believe it or not it only cost me £1 :D
So if you have a £1 store near you it might be worth a visit.

I bought from Tarpaflex on eBay.  They were very friendly and helpful on the phone (Paid direct by CC rather than PayPal), goods arrived promptly, etc.

It's worth frequently checking ebay, as occasionally you get a 'one off' that's not one of the big sellers. I got a roll of 50m x3m wide netting for little more than the price of the 2m stuff.
Did it really tell you to do THAT on the packet?

We got a huge part-used roll from freecycle. It was used for the ducks last year and must be about 30m+ x 2m.

Might be worth checking.

Freecycle's getting to be all take & no give around here.

It has been suggested in the past that you asked the builders when they are about to finish a job for the old stuff.

One of my fellows plotters asked a building company owner he knew about this and was told that it actually belongs to the scaffolding company who generally re-use it. If the builders give it to you - beware - they are giving away something that does not belong to them.

One thing I'd add about the size of netting, consider the eventual height of the crops it will cover - and make sure you allow enough width to reach the ground whilst remaining above the tops of the plants.  I think 3m is more flexible for a wider range of crops than 2m in this regard.
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

I've got both widths for different crops, but if you have to chose one, I'd agree with yorkie.
