Any tips for growing potatoes in a black bin?

I have just finished planting my potatoes today and still have loads left so I thought I would grow some in a black bin.  Will drill holes in the bottom, have read somewhere to put a layer of crocks at the bottom.  Also read somewhere that I should not plant them too low in the dustbin as the leaves won't get any sun - but anyother tips would be appreciated.  And does it work well?  Thanks a lot

Plum's right. Plant them near the bottom in well drained compost or whatever. As the shoots show, keep covering  them with compost. Once they're poking out the top, leave them to develop as usual. Don't let them dry out. Maybe sprinkle some blood/bonemeal or chicken pellets on the compost to feed them - because they're hungry little tykes as well as thirsty!  Enjoy!
