When are blackcurrants ready to pick, being a new bush it only has 18 fruits on it. I have picked two and they are green inside. I have high hopes though as even though green inside they were nice and quite sweet. Or are they supposed to be green inside. The variety is Ben Conan.

Black currants are supposed to be green inside i belive.

It very much depends on what you will use them for. If you decide to make jam then slightly less ripe as they contain more pectin, if you want to use them for puds then let them go really ripe to sweeten up a little.

I'll use them for smoothies.

Wait till theyre really black and come off the stalks easily, then youll see why blackcurrants really are the best fruit. Im sure it wasnt an apple that Eve offered to Adam: it was a bowl of blackcurrants and cream !

  Well from the taste of the almost ripe one I would say you probably right. Can't wait for next year though when hope to have more fruits. You could blow me down with a feather I never knew they were green inside., although only KT says so. I have seen on another forum that they are infact green inside.

haha i guess many people don't bite into half a black currant to see what colour it is, they are more of a 10 at a time type fruit :tongue2:
