Title: Hatching :)
Post by: Thingy on September 01, 2010, 16:59
I was just adjusting the humitity in my incy, about 5 mins ago now, and I gently picked up an egg so I could pour the water in, and as I moved, I felt something rock in the egg. I was like 'O noes, the eggs a dud, so I put it to my ear and...I could hear little cheeps :).

I will keep you updated. How come each hatch you do is like the first batch, in terms of excitement levels :tongue2:

Do you remember my story from last month - 8 eggs, 2 hatched, both died within a few days.  Got back on the incubator/hatching cycle  a week later, with much deliberation.  This time I have had hygrometer and thermometer which I have kept an eye on.  All 6 due on Friday.

...just checked eggs before I go to bed, and 1 has hatched!! I heard it cheeping earlier today.  It looks healthy, so fingers crossed.  Haven't told my 12 year old DS yet, will wait to see how things are in the morning.  I want to avoid the upset with him last month.

I have bad news,

The chick that was hatching died in the night. :(. I opened the other egg, and that one had died to. Then I opened one of the New hampshires, and that one had died too...I haven't the strength to open the last 3, but they are dead too :(.

0/6 hatched :(

My head is full of what ifs. It seems like the shells around my eggs are very strong. If I chuck an (infertile) silkie egg at the ground with full force, to crack it for the hens to eat, it bounces. All my chicks struggle to get out.

My dad says, what is is what must be, but it doesnt stop it being upsetting :(

I don't have anything useful to say except it's so sad to hear of your upset, I hope things improve next time for you :) <3

Thank you :)

I have got over it a bit now, sounds bad but I spent some time with my other chicks and watched them peck about and sunbathe, and watched my ducklings splash around, so I am feeling a bit better :). Plus my dad got me a huge bar of chocolate.

I shall now feed my Ex Batts some treats :).

I think thats me done for the year now. I am going to put the incy away till next spring :).
