To rack or not to rack that is the question
« on: July 28, 2009, 09:23 »
Hi all, I have made some blackcurrant wine, and damn I wish I kept a record of dates etc. I am at the stage where I have given it its first racking, yesterday, after it had been bubbling away beautifully for approximately 5-6weeks. It was still bubbling yesterday, but a lot of sediment had formed and I didnt want to leave it sat on old yeast for too long. My problem is that it now isn't doing anything! Should I add a little more sugar, or wait a couple of days to see if it picks up again, or ? The level of water in the airlock is indicative of some build up of pressure on the inside, but not much.

bit late repling but I've only just joined...

After racking off the pulp, it takes the yeastie beasties a little while to get going again.

As for adding more sugar.....
What was the starting S.G. ?
What was the S.G when you racked ?

Hi, there is no need to rack until the ferment is over you have about 4 weeks till the yeast starts eating the lees and ruins the wine on racking add 1/2 campden tablet.
