It was on the weather forecast in the week that we’ve had the most frosts in April in 40 or so years, so that figures!

We've just had twenty minutes of hail too, and everything's outside, hardening off...
Probably iced up by now:0(

Well the 50 or so potatoes I planted failed to show, and the carrots sown outside failed to show, so it is a case of yet another damaging locked in weather pattern hindering my allotment gardening attempts. I'm so glad I am not a subsistence farmer, or I'd be on the verge of starving to death by now with all the ridiculous once in a lifetime extremes we've had over the last decade or so.

My potatoes are waiting to go in , the weather map has been blue with air flows from the north , so tempting to say ' chuck 'em in and see what happens. Joy Larkcom's Grow your own vegetables recommends a soil temp of 6 degrees or 43f in old money and to delay until things improve.

Frost has had most of the blossom and it's bone dry here too. I only potted on my toms yesterday even the sungold were still only on their first set of leaves. Entire packets of sweetpeas and lettuce were no shows. I've not bothered with anything else yet it's a rubbish year again.

For those hoping for rain, the wet and windy low is on our doorstep. Just a few hours until November arrives.

Yup, all slightly nadgered even under some debris netting...
It must be so dispiriting for starting gardeners as well as oldies like me, to see so much effort - and money, go down the swanee like this! It'd take a strong will to keep going if one is faced with a whole new plot...

I've been in and out of my greenhouse with plants like a fiddler's elbow. At night they've been in lock-down in a mini-greenhouse, then they've been un-zipped in the morning and either left there with the vent open or put outside on tables, watered if needed then put back in again at night. Today they were out for a drink of rain then went back inside with the vent shut. The ones in the cold frame (a mini-gh on its side with a zipped cover) also had a drink but then got re-zipped, but the heavy rain is pooling on top of the cover and probably draining through the zips and drenching them so hope they can manage to survive. Oh deary me - GRRRRR. :mad: :mad: :mad:

Our little chums look so derelict, they're back in the GH as we speak! I couldn't bear to look out at them struggling under some debris netting any more!
And I planted out the PSB this morning, so they're getting the hump about me too...
