How to dry and store Chilli's.
« on: August 02, 2011, 21:26 »
I have a chilli plant going strong in the G/H.

How can I dry and them store the Chilli's for use throughout the Winter.

The Chilli's are currently green but some are turning red, so what do I need to do.
Firstly should I leave them all on the plant to turn red?

I don't particularly want to freeze them and would prefer to dry them, I do have a G/H and a dry brick built garage and off course an airing cupboard.
99% Organic and 1% Slug Pellets.

Allotment holder since 27th May 2007.

You could always make a ristra, as discussed in this thread

By far the easiest is just to put on a rack in the airing cupboard as you have one and leave there for a couple of weeks and then put in a jar when they are completely dry.

I also have some strung up in the kitchen, just threaded with a needle and thread whilst still fresh and some in bags in the freezer.

In fact, I probably have enough dried chillies in jars to last another 20 years but STILL I grow them.

Oh, and chilli relish is great and easy to make if you just want the heat straight from a jar and ready prepared.

I think a ristra is by far the easiest option, as described in the thread linked to by Mumofstig. ;)
