Help please, fellow gardeners, I went out to my allotment after a three-day absence and found some  my crimson crush tomatoes looking decidely odd (see attached picture). Any ideas please?

It looks as they have some sort of mould or fungal infection.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

Thanks for your prompt reply Goosegirl. I have just been looking at some pictures on the Internet of tomato disorders and my tomatoes look very much like pictures of what are called Tomato burn injury (and it has been searingly hot lately). Any idea if the tomatoes are still edible?

Best thing is to try one and cut the patch off.

That's what I would say it was.  It is the tomato version of serious sunburn.

They are edible, but will be mushy where the damage is.  You could cut those bits off and make tomato sauce with the rest, but use them up fast.  They will start to go mouldy where the skin is affected.

Wdere they in a greenhouse? I ask because when it is very hot and sunny down here I get the same with tomatoes grow outside due to them being scorched by the sun, I think this is what you have not any mould or disease.
