My ponies/horses
« on: April 02, 2011, 10:32 »
I thought I would introduce the loves of my life and the ones that make all the poo for the gardeners!  :tongue2:

I have four horses/ponies and live before you get to the border that starts the Wirral.

A 19 year old connemara who I have had for 11 years.  She has EMS which is roughly the equivalent of human diabetes and is on a very strict diet.  We show all our horses but she has been retired from showing due to her condition as she used to do working hunter which is jumping a course of rustic fences with a show afterwards.  She is a very happy and vibrant veteran.

Then I have a 14 year old thoroughbred, being a tb he has many quirks but is the most loving horse I have ever known and loves shoving his muzzle into your face for kisses!!

Then I have two youngsters.

One who is 6, a part bred welsh and just backed was bought to sell but has ended up being with us a lot longer than ancticipated due to my daughter liking her!!   ::)  She is an excellent jumper and will make some little girl a fabulous pony once my daughter decides to sell her.

I then have my baby Welsh Section C who we have had since a yearling.  He is nearly four.  My daughter has sat on him but we have decided to leave him a little longer as he is quite immature for his age and will start working with him later on in the year.  He makes me laugh every day with the mischief he gets into he.  He is just like a typical three year old boy.

So thats my lot, I hope I havent bored you all.

They're lovely. I really do miss the horses, but love to see everyone else's.

Will have to look out a pic or two of Tosca.

They're beautiful!!  I should think you keep busy with the showing as well as caring for them.

Thank you.  They certainly do take up a lot of time but I wouldnt change it for the world.

You arent too far away from me Tosca.  I work in Flintshire and live across the water.

My lot (now all departed except for one) are all on here somewhere.  I now only ride for fun at a friends who owns a stud for Welsh Mountain ponies.  I'm probably going to work there part time after I've been made redundant later in the year.

I don't own horses but have ridden many, and find they all have very unique, almost human personalities. It's very true about 'horse sense'. They may be mischievous, but they're very smart animals and if they take to you, very loyal friends.  My sister had a former circus horse for many years and the naughty boy kept getting loose in the barn and opening up all the cow stalls. Mum nearly had fits when she'd come into the barn in the morning and find poo everywhere, the cows trying to get at the feed bins, and Destiny standing nonchalantly in his (open) stall.  :D

question
Why do horses whinney?
