Title: Biofuel
Post by: Vit on May 11, 2011, 12:10
Hello to everyone. Just wonder, is anyone here after biofuel?
As far as i know the basic list is:
a) biodiesel
b) ethanol(i remember about restrictions on distillation, but it's not an alcohol, it's fuel)
c) mix of ethanol and petrol
d) butanol

At work, we looked into using Bio fuel for our fleet of tractors and ride-on machines. We found that the engine manufacturers recommended using a mixture of Bio and standard fuel. I can' remember off-hand exactly what the ratio was, but it was something like 5% Bio, after that, they wouldn't uphold warranty work that might occur.
We decided it wasn't worth the effort.

No idea.
Not my department, but it was quite a large supplier if I remember correctly.

Biofuel here is a no go due to our climate. If you use straight bio from waste cooking oils, the fuel tends to solidify in cold weather, hence warranty problems. I suspect that some parts of the UK can get chilly enough with even percentages of bio in use and experience similar clogging.

Sorry, I have no knowledge of alcohol fuels. Any form of distilling is very illegal here, including fuel. They do make ethanol from corn, but stations are very few and far between, if they even exist any more over here.
