bio sterilant mustard
« on: January 07, 2013, 18:39 »
mentioned in jeyes fluid,,pdblake i have not used this but read that it has to be cut down when it flowers and buried in the soil,it then releases its fumes which are toxic to mainly wire worm,m1ckz said they were a problem on the plot, leather jackets and possibly any slugs present at that time.on the same site they have a pruduct BanishSlug for 9month control.

It was in the new Marshalls catalogue too, Caliente Mustard.  I haven't checked the website.

I believe the mustard has to be chopped very finely and incorporated very quickly for it to have the desired effect. For more about this mustard see the link below

I have used the slug banish and found it effective. A friend is convinced that using the bio sterilant mustard has eased the onion rot problem in his plot.

Is this and caliente mustard one and the same then? It does seem a little on the pricey side, but if does all it says it does then it might be a bargain.

My only doubt is the slugs and snails claim. They'll come straight back as soon as something is planted.

I have not found that. I have had no slug damage on the cabbages and sprouts and only a little on the swedes this year. I watered in the slug banish in April. I have found slugs in the compost bins, but not on my crops.

I think we're talking at cross purposes here. I was asking about the mustard, not the slug banish
