Feeding COugettes
« on: May 19, 2008, 14:06 »
Hi everyone,
As a new allotmenteer this is my first year actively growing anything on the plot.

i am planning to grow some courgettes, which i understand are pretty straight forward. However, i read that they need to be fed every two weeks, but what is the best feed(s) to use?
Regards

Mark

I would start by preparing the ground with plenty of compost and/or manure. This should give the plants all the nutrients they need although I do tend to add a sprinkling of fish, blood and bone and chicken manure pellets to each plant throughout the growing season.

Every 2 weeks is referring to the use of tomato feed.

i have planted courgettes for the past two years in well manured ground (horse)

i did nothing else other than water them (didn't need to do that last year it was so wet) and had more courgettes than i and my work mates and neighbours could cope with

I tend to give mine a boost ever two or three weeks with tom food as gobs mentioned, they need plenty of water.
