Judging by Auntys photo - a cane across the bottom secured to the back verticals. String is then attached to the cane.

I used an off cut of tiling lath I had and screwed a few inches above the ground so I could weed without it being in the way.

I've put 3 seeds at each station, 1 to fail to germinate, 1 for the slugs and 1 for me   I find it easier to thin out rather than worry about holes in the row.  ..... Werks for me.  :D

I was watching one of the "good old boys" planting his beans yesterday - 7 year old seed thrown randomly by the handful in a trench where he's been growing them for nearly 30 years. I do wonder sometimes if we have a tendency to over think some things.   Time will tell but so far his broad beans / onions / beetroot and tatties all look considerably better than mine.

That's just how I've done it but Munty says to put the string into the bottom of the hole where you sow the bean !

That is the bit I still don't get. How and whaere do you secure the string if you put it in the ground with the bean :?:
I know less today than I did yesterday, and I knew nothing then!

You don't as such, just dig hole say 4inches dangle string, curl a bit more in for good luck, back fill with 2inches, add bean seedscover with 2 inches. All the beans weight is pulling down  so it should keep the string in place by itself. At least thats the theory AFAICS . Same principle works with toms in growbags too.

I have done it that way in the greenhouse but on the munty frame I have used aunty's adaptation as it was easier I think to secure the string that way.

Thanks to you all, food for thought and a little experimenting needed . I think sowing 3/4 seeds to a string ,as we have slug problems too.I'll try the cane along the bottom on some and straight into the hole on others.

Our veg plots are 75 feet long , I think I'm going to have aching arms by the time I've finished stringing the frame !

Next question .. what type of string do peeps use , thinking of jute myself .

I'll be using jute myself. Nice and rough for the tendrils to cling to. Other stuff would be too slick.
