Hello, new chook owner and new member!

Hi

Just wanted to say a quick hello, I'm new to this forum and to chook keeping.

We picked up 8 pullets on saturday from Grannie Annie - our first foray into the joys of chooks  :D  They are from the batch of Babcocks she has.

5 days later and we love them to bits - they are great characters and will happily hop onto your knee/back/shoulder depending on what you are doing, oh, al help muck the coop out in the mornings

Yes ours are very chatty (esp when food about    ) , we feel like the pied piper with a line of chooks behind us as we walk past the run.

Our lazy cat has never been outside as much, she now lays on our mounting block watching her hens (can't get in and has never caught anything in her life) and the horses spend half the evening peering at the chooking  :D

Dunno about that - they seem to like pecking me - well my watch, ring, jeans, trainers etc, etc

Had to ring Annie last night in a panic though as one had been tail pecked by the others abnd had a bleeding bum - she's languishing in the run in a big cage at the mo with food all to herself, hopefully will be ok for her to go back with the others later smeared in vaseline

They also like helping muck out, well shovelling the shavings back where I've moved it to removed the poop!

Not quite so messy as the horses though

Anne trains them specially to peck at anything. It's a highly specialized skill !

Our Amberlinks used to like pecking at my trousers, boots, hands, ring, etc, etc but now all they do is gaggle round my feet in case I've dropped some food. Especially if I take a spade or fork in !!  :)
