Does anyone else have the dreaded blackfly yet on their beans? What's the best way of getting rid?!? Also, they plants are only 2' tall or so at the moment, is it worth pinching the tips out yet?

I've pinched the tops off mine already, for the same reason

I don't need to worry about letting them get higher then Lesley? And should i pinch those plants out with no blackfly on? Thanks so much, Lee.

All the flowers on mine were lower down (no more forming) so I just took the infested tops off, probably have to do the rest soon though. Yucky job ........Euck!

Last year I tried a bizarre new method which seemed to work, I am going to give it a go this year.. Here is the theory...
Ants  'farm' the blackfly because they taste sweet, I put down spoonfuls of jam, which the ants are attracted to, the ants eat the jam, therefore not requiring to farm the blackfly.  In addition the ants overdose on the sugar, then need protein so eat the blackfly. 
It sounded very farfetched to me, but I will try as all my flower heads seem to be at the tips, so I will pinch all of the flowers off too, and then the blackfly just come back on the new shoots.
