Pelleted Parsnip seeds
« on: January 29, 2014, 15:45 »
Hi Gang - what is the advantage of using pelleted parsnip seeds over normal? I just bought some, without spotting that I had done so, till they arrived in the post! ta Plum
small, Welsh and almost certainly bonkers, but can be tamed with Talisker, if required

1) You have the perfect excuse to start your very own thread in GYO!  ::)

2) They won't blow away when you sow them outdoors and you could probably still see them even if you forgot your specs.

Maybe a bit wasteful though if you usually sow a "pinch" to each station to ensure you get at least one seedling per station.
Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

The reason
Pelleted seeds are wrapped in coating of inert material to make them easier to plant. Fine or irregular seeds typically are pelleted for use in planting equipment to allow for their even distribution

I don't think there is any advantage. With all pelleted seed you get less for your money, but then parsnip is one seed that does not keep very well. The seed can easily be handled and I always chit them first.
It would be interesting to know if pelleted parsnip keep better that un pelleted.
