Second year of having an allotment, and have the same kinds of problems, weeds absolutely everywhere. Dug over quite thoroughly last year and hoe'd regularly, but still they come! Does it ever get any better/easier?

So this seed bed you leave for ten days, hoe and then sow, but surely the weeds just carry on growing again. I am sick of weeds at the moment it's a daily job

A stale seed bed is one where there are no viable weed seeds.  It is created by digging over the area and raking it to fine tilth then it is left for a week, watering if dry.  This makes the weed seeds near the surface germinate.  After this week, rake over again being careful to only disturb the top inch or so of soil.  Ideally you would repeat this process a two or three times until you get no more seeds germinating.

In addition to staling the seed bed, it is helpful to sprinkle a little sharp sand in the backfill over the seeds after sowintg to help identify where to hoe and where not to go.
