the chicks finally hatched yesturday late afternoon/evening. 3 beautiful Brahma chicks. im so excited i really wanted Brahmas but our local breeder charges £50 for a hen £30 for a cock. i have heard that Brahmas are slow maturing, is there a way of sexing them before they start crowing lol  if so how and when. thanks lisa x

Congratulations on your new chicks.  I can't help you with the sexing etc - I'm sure someone who can will be along soon.  I would love to hatch someeggs but not yet!

Brahmas are slow maturing.  They eat loads and hardly lay any eggs - but I don't care  I have 2 hens and 4 chicks.

As for sexing them, I've been told that you have to look at the combs.  Cockerels have three definite rows of "peas" and pullets have only one.  But you have to wat a few weeks before you can tell.  My two oldest chicks are 4 weeks old, and they both look the same - so either two boys or two girls lol (knowing my luck they'll be boys though )
