Hi everyone,

After reading and reading on the internet for ideas I have hatched a plan and I wonder if anyone has tried anything similar with success.

The plastic balls (the kiddy ones you buy for pools) as joints, make a small cross slit in them
Canes pushed into them to make frame including a cross section on the top
Then cover with builders debris netting or other suitable covering
making cloches 6ftx5ft 2ft high to cover beds and stablising by leaving extra netting a bottom to secure with bricks or pegs

And then similar a kind of winder breaker style structure about 4ft high with no top to stake around the carrot/parsnip bed to protect against flies

Any ideas of improvements gratefully accepted

bren

thanks
xb

It works a treat with ordinary netting.
Cheese makes everything better.

sounds ok to me except for the possibility of strong wind it would rip the canes apart unless you could some how fix the joints ie duck tape  good luck  go for it  phil
If the early bird gets the worm how come the 2nd mouse to the trap gets the cheese ??

Just make sure that no leaves touch the netting or the cabbage whites stick their bums in and lay their eggs. ;)

I've gone up-market this year.  The blue pipe was free, so why not use it.

Love what you've done - may I ask where you got the free pipe from ?

They're  not finished yet as I intend to fix a wooden batten to the apex to make it more solid.

My brother is a builder and was given loads for free.  Sorry, can't point you in the right direction for more of the same.

I tried the plastic balls but found they were a bit flimsy - but if you buy that activa yoghurt in the round 'ball like' pots - they make a very sturdy equivalent to the plastic balls when you want to create a cage effect and have canes coming out at angles. OH is being fed more yoghurt than ever before so I can plenty of pots :D

I am going to use this stuff as the enviromesh is really expensive. The cheapest I have found this stuff for is 25.00 for 2mx50m.
