I have just finished building my second hand greenhouse, wasn't too difficult as I took a lot of photos before I dismantled it!

I am, however, totally flumoxed with the roof vent. It has an automatic opener on it. I have tried umpteen permutations to get this fitting correctly none of which work.

My main concern is that currently the metal frame of the vent, when bolted together and fitted means the bolts rest on the pane of glass below the vent. This dosen't seem logical to me, but there is no other way to bolt the frame together. I can't reverse the bolts as the glass fits in a channel between them, preventing this.

Can anyone else comment as to how their roof vent sits on the pane underneath, does it have a lip which rests on the other pane, or does rest on top of it like mine?

I have 4 vents on our 2nd hand Ghouse (one I fitted an automatic opener to). All come to rest on an alu cross piece, between the 2 roof 'rafters' which holds the frame above the glass below. Could you be missing that cross piece?

I do have that alu cross piece savbo, it fits along the pane underneath but sits about 5inches too high up when fitted.

The only thing I can think of is I've somehow changed the way the glass was fitted underneath. Short of starting again I think the easiest option is to cut a new piece which actually fits.

could it have needed an 18" pane and you've got a 24"?

I have 2 types of auto vents 1 new the other i had given. The second hand one i
had to do some mods to as some of the fittings were missing. The new one fitted
with out any problems i have the fitting instructions for it if they are of use and i can
post a photo of the other if it will help.

Savbo, it would appear so. The only thing I can think of is that the previous owners have assembled the greenhouse incorrectly as it all appears to fit together now I have cut a new pane
