does anyone have a pic of scaley leg ? as a lot of people seem to talk about but what does it look like ? how is it caused ? how can it be treated and what happens if you dont treat the legs ?

thank you mr small dear !! you have a wealth of knowledge and blummin quick with it, so will red mite powder kill these little fellas off if they should appear ? and if they do cover the legs in cream.
should this be done every month or just as and when.
It was certainly easier when i taught Falconry....

thanks as for your info to, you two guys here a very quick and v helpfull.
so i guess sudocream is the job for these legs and i guess it will take a few weeks to clear up, not that they have them but im just reading through old postings and its good to learn what to look out for

once only ,leave a week n then redo but it usualy does the killing after a day ,.some mmay escape into the feather line so i just redo .then do every month the one time  :wink:

i never thought there was so much to do just to look after the chooks, just shows you theres a hel of a lot to learn, thanks for all your advice

Ask your vet. They should prescribe a liquid (bit like Spot On for dogs/cats) to drop on the back of the chickens (need to treat all of them as it is catching) this should kill off the mite that burrows under the scales of the legs, also any other mites that may be living on the birds. Treat perches/in side of sheds regularly by spraying with Backtakil or Jeyes Fluid to prevent reinfestation. None treatment can lead to the birds becoming very lame. Nasty.
