Has anybody heard of this?
« on: October 16, 2007, 14:16 »
Hi Guy's, My Father In Law was given 2 Buff Silkie hens about 3 or 4 weeks ago. They are the survivors of a group 4 that were attacked by a fox. Now my question is, 1 is in perfect condition, the other has a comb etc, and legs that are a sort of blue colour. He has taken her to a vet, and the vet said it was just 'shock',and she will eventually go back to normal. Can shock cause this sort of reaction, or is she ill. Thanks for any input......

its not shock ,,, ita a pale bluish colour as its the collected blood in the wattle n combs ,it also affects the muscles in the legs and the tip of the wings and tail  its called blooming trauma bruising it happens more in turkeys . as usual a blooming vet that knows faff all about chucks .. they will come out in a month or so mate .just dont let her be panicked again.
still alive /............

Thanks yet again Munty, thats why I posted this question on here, it's hard to find a vet that's up to scratch with chooks. I'll let my father in law know.
Thanks again.

sorry ,but if the vet says he does'nt know then they have credit with me they cant be expected to know everyting but to take wild faffing guesses does more harm to the birds and the owners  :x

Didn't they used to clean the flue's in "the big house" by dropping a live goose down them ?   All the flapping as it fell down the chimney swept the soot off

Eyup, Silkies are georgous, have fantastic characters, beautiful tasting eggs and are just the bees knees.

Anyway feathers too soft to make a useful flue brush    Better a wire haired terrier.

BTW; Yorkies make excellent pull thro's
