Help with identification please
« on: August 23, 2010, 09:25 »
Hi, can anyone help in identifying which breed these are. They were bought as "babette" which is a colloquial term for anything small.

As you can see from the last image their chest feathers are turning from black/white/grey to brown. I am assured that they are all hens and should lay in about 4-5 weeks time.

Are they likely to be a true breed or a cross breed.

Many thanks

Andy

Well they are certainly a bantam something ;)  Probably a "farmyard special"

I'd be a bit concerned about the middle photo being a pullet though, the comb is much more developed than the others, especially if they are all the same age

Oh dear, Oh dear,

My three daughters have already given them names. I wonder how loud his call will be. My wife expressly asked if they were all hens (she is french so there were no languages difficulties) and were were assured. Not the end of the world of course but not quite what we expected.

We were also told that they would need their flight feathers trimming. I've read the book so I hope it will be a simple as it looks. I have a much larger pen to build first.

Cheers

Andy

Staffies are softer than you think.

At least one!!

Two would be a disaster!!

Just got back from after a couple of hours away to find all 3 birds had found their own way back inside the coop which is really pleasing. Fingers crossed that it is as easy every night.

cheers

They are seriously pretty birds.  :)

Unless you have close neighbours, so what if it's a cock? Of course if you DO have close neighbours... he looks like he'd be quite tasty!  :D

Never mind the neighbours what about me!  :)

I do not think that I am quite ready to explain to my children that yes this is Lucette that we are having for lunch.

Will have to wait and see how much noise he makes.

Cheers

The grey one in the second picture at the front looks like a silver partridge dutch girl  to me, how big is she.

They are about 10"-12" high at the moment. I've googled silver partridge dutch and they do look similar at the moment. I guess they will be easier to identify when they are older?

cheers

Andy

edit, here is a picture of all 3 together
