HELP - very poorly chicken
« on: May 16, 2010, 20:59 »
One of our Rhode island has started today with respiratory distress and very crackly noises. Its beak is constantly open and its breathing very fast. It has started to cough up worms and I have read about gape worm and they can suffocate on these. I've separated this chicken but I'm concerned whether getting anything like flubenvet will make a difference and will work fast enough. :(

Many thanks

Andy

I KNOW! apparently that includes treatment...blooming rip off!

Its only over the counter medication I want anyway but they force you to have a consult! :(

Im sorry that your chicken being allowed to suffer boils down to 60quid, and her life is worth 8 times less :(

you have a duty of care for that bird so either put her out of her misery or get the correct treatment - it is against the law to leave an animal suffering.

Ok - what will the vet do for my chicken? I'm not after a judgement about what I'm doing for the chuck and alot of people what do what I'm doing - we aint all rich.

The bird has gapeworm and I've managed to find a friend who has given me some flubenvet intermediate

Any treatment regime you can advise for this poorly bird please?

If your bird is that bad that she is coughing up worms then she has had them for a while and as previously pointed out Flubenvet will not act quick enough she needs a vet to prescribe something that will act quicker.
£60 you say is more than 8 times the value of your bird then all I can say is that you bought her very cheaply RIRs round here cost in the region of £25.

I got an emergency vet on a bank holiday Monday and including the antibiotics still wasn't 60 quid your vet is ripping you off.
God I hope my chickens don't ever have worms coming out their mouth that sounds really bad !!
Good luck
