What is it?
« on: April 16, 2009, 16:26 »
For the past few days I've been finding a broken egg, firstly outside in the run, broken and empty, second time on the floor of the hen house near the drinker, broken and empty, and another one under their roosting perch.

I doubt very much it is a rat, as I haven't seen rats here for about a year, and a wee mouse couldn't carry an egg outside to eat.  We don't have squirrels.  Anyone got any
ideas?

Could be crows I caught one last year going into the hen house and thieving, it doesn't do it any more!!!  You can always try putting up some strands of string in the doorway as the crows hate this the chickens soon get used to going in and out so don't worry.

Do you have a lot of magpies around?  Could be one of them as they will steal eggs.
