i went to my local bird avairy centre today an asked if they had an scally leg mite spray an they didnt but the guy told me to dip thier legs in liquid parrafin which i have loads of { was given it by the vet for horses } is it ok to use that one and does it work ??
the one who has been down an quiet is eating an pooing etc etc  but i dont know if shes laying her legs look pretty rough could that be helping to make her feel low .

Yup, paint her legs in liquid paraffin - it suffocated the mites.  You could also paint with surgical spirit first and then do the liquid paraffin bit.  I just kept coating my silkies legs with petroleum jelly and cleaning the scales with a soft tooth brush every few days for a couple of weeks.

i was told to use surgical spirit to wipe over the legs, then coat in petroleum jelly which suffocates the mites when we collected our chicks. it was just in case advice i hope..

Looby if her legs are bad, they will be sore, personally I wouldn't use surgical spirit. Benzyl benzoate is much kinder any very effective, just paint on legs about twice a week, you should be able to get from most chemists.

thanks foxy , i will get some this afternoon  but i dont know if she will make it tell then i think shes well poorly . shes now shuffling along an cant move her toes to well.

shes no better an if i go to hold her up an let go  she just falls down an the other one aint no better ethier although i suppsoe we need to give the antiboitics time to work, i dont think ethier will make it  i know someone who can dispose of them but that wont be tell tomorrw . and i am going to the vets to pay my bills so i would perfer them to put them down peacefully then to have their necks broken .. my friend told me how to do it on the phone an even just that made me cry .
thing is i really dont want them to suffer
