Broody hen question?
« on: December 29, 2008, 15:25 »
I have a silkie gone broody.
Is it too early to let her sit some eggs, never used a broody before so sorry if a daft question.
Also would it be OK to leave the cockerel in with her.

BJ
There are three signs of old age. The first is your loss of memory, the other two I forget.

Leave her go broody put eggies with her its great fun  :D  the only thing is when there allowed to go broody our (silkie) goes broody every other 2 months   and you dont get eggs :( .

As about the cockerel I would say take her out so she's not hasseled or anything just peace and quiet .

Im NO expert though I would wait and see waht the others say .

What came first the chicken or the egg ???

Thanks everyone.
If she is still sitting tight later today I will put some eggs under.
How many though? she is very tiny. Do you think 6 or 8 small eggs would be ok?
Off to make a broody pen now!

Broody hen question?
Well my blue bantam silkie had 2 BIG chicken eggs and 3 Duck eggs .

The 2 Chicken eggs hatched and we had two hens   and both are laying well now . Out of the three duck eggs we had one duck but it died a couple of weeks later :(

So we put 5 bigish eggs and they were fine .
