this is the mum of the darker girl..

and dad who has a lovely colour anyway..

which is why one of the young girls will look a bit darker than her sister the other mum is a bit paler but is also the sister of the hen above.

I can tell by looking at the chicks who their mum is and I have only used 3 breeding hens -2 are the ones above and a third is paler and a heavier hen, her offspring is a bit chunkier, more a typical meat bird. The cockerels she throws take time to see the chestnut colouring and look a bit speckedly and odd for a while.

Jessie is gorgeous! and aren't they sweet natured, never known a fav to peck or bully and they lay well and are hardy things even get eggs in winter from them!

The lighter one of the two females....Bunty....(I loved reading that when I was a kid..........in fact I recently got 14 annuals off e-bay!!!! :oops: :oops: ) is an absolute sweetie!...really cuddly!
