I've just been visited by the local fox, and my proud cock has been killed. Found the body, so will be having him for dinner tomorrow (my birthday party - great birthday present, not!!).

I'm assuming his 2 girls are still ok, though they haven't come back yet, so I need a new cock. Does anyone have one that needs a new home in North Wales? I can't afford to buy one, but the hens need a cock to look after them.

Have you tried Freecycle Martin?  We sometimes get unwanted cockerals on our local ones.

I've got 3, but they are only 8 weeks old!!!

Bodger, I may take you up on that!! One hen has returned, so hoping the other one comes back before nightfall.

Woodburner, foxes will leave their kills if they are disturbed, and as I rushed out with my dog as soon as I heard Cocky squawking I think we can assume the fox was disturbed. He left the body at the base of a tree, presumably before he/she jumped the fence and fled.

Aunt Sally, he was big and obvious, and so the obvious target for a hungry fox, so if one was being anthropomorphic one could say he sacrificed himself for his girls. Of course, that would be ridiculous, but hey ho.

Hopefully I can get another one that is just as magnificent. No idea what type he was, but he had creamy speckly feathers and a lovely irridescent black tail.
