Another poo pic and question
« on: June 16, 2008, 09:13 »
Hiya, I keep finding these poos all over the garden, I know its not just one particular hen doing them as I've seen them all doing normal poos as well. wondered if anyone can tell me if these poos are ok or something wrong?

thanks
Katt

It looks like a rather foamy ceacal poo to me.

Yellow foamy poos can be a sign of coccidiosis but if that were the case you chooks would apear unwell and they would not be doing normal poos to.

I'll pop that picture in the sticky, thanks Katt

Coxoid is the treatment for coccidia, can't remember if there is an egg withdrawal time though.  You could treat for that but I think it unnecessary if they are healthy and have been producing poos like that for a period of time.

Always a good idea to keep an eye on what they are "doing" though

Yes my birds had it but i treated them with Coxoid and didn't eat the eggs for 10 days and they're fine! ! ! !

This is the information I have found about egg withdrawal so far:

Quote from: "pekinbantam forum"
Last year I phoned the makers of Coxiod. The official line is that it is not licensed for Poultry and shouldn't be given at all! But the sensible advice from one of their technical people was that a withdrawal period of 8 weeks would be ok [for meat]. My vet also agreed on 6-8 weeks for the eggs too.

But I don't think your hens have coccidiosis, just keep an eye on them for other symptoms like:

Ruffled feathers.
Unthriftiness.
Head drawn back into shoulders.
A chilled appearance.
Diarrhea which may have blood in it.

I get a few of these poos and think nothing of it as they are all perfectly healthy, I think sometimes ceacal poos can look a bit like a mustard coloured angel delight! yummy lovely and fluffy toffee flavour!
