Jo57 some of mine move into the laurel hedging others stay put in the cherry trees even though they are bare  :)

might be helpful to train to a shake of a pot with mixed corn in. I use an lidded ice cream tub.
Found it useful getting the hens into an area so they can be checked over..not possible to catch them apart from Roberta who loves being up. Took a few weeks for them to learn, but it means when it looks like stormy weather I can get them into their enclosed covered run quite quickly, as well as helping to make neighbours life easier when chook sitting. They also answer to their own name being called :wacko:

I do the corn in a tin trick with mine too. It's really handy to be able to get them into the run quickly if I need to. They always come running from wherever they are in the garden when I shake the tin and follow me into the run no trouble. It's surprising how fast they associate the sound of the tin shaking with getting a treat and since chickens are led by their stomachs it works every time. My two new girls soon got the hang of it too as they just followed the others' lead in case they missed out!!  :D
