They do tend to show a comb early but it is more the colouring (pinkish to red) of the comb that would have me thinking cockerel.

I like your coop set up, is it easily accessible for cleaning?

I will keep my eye on the combs as the develop the all look orangey at the mo!

Thanks ANHBUC, there is a big door that we can walk in to let them in and out, we have bark on the floor which we don't really clean!!! Then they sleep/lay in the cushion box type thing which we can take out and jet wash! It works for us but they have no where to perch, hence why im looking at modifying it/building another!
its a constant learning curve!

Having said that they free range all day our 5000m2 garden!

You would be able to make a freestanding perch that you could put in the cushion box.  I made one for my broody and chicks to use so it isn't difficult.

does it not matter how high the perch is ANHBUC?? obviously for the chicks not too high because they cant fly to well, but what about for my normal birds?? do you think they would roost now after never having a perch?? They never attempt to fly in our trees??

Some of my chicks will perch during the day before they are 2 weeks old.  They will fly as high as they can and they are very light so getting down is no problem for them.  The perch has a lower bar so they are not far from the ground.  You will see your chicks flying on to Mums back at a couple of weeks so they are quite adventurous.

If they have never perched you may need to encourage them by holding a treat just above the perch.  I am sure they will soon get the hang of it and it is better for them to perch than sleep in their own poo.

The perch should be higher than the nest box - only needs to be a couple of inches higher :)
