I have had a problem with rare coloured Orpington bantams. This is the third time it has happened in 3 months. The symptoms state with a limp and bit unsteady on one foot. On examination there is nothing different. It steadily gets worse until we usually dispatch the chicken. The first girl was a silver laced we took her to the vet they couldn't find any reason gave her a week of Baytril but no improvement. Each time the girls have been in a group and no one else has been effected. Since then we have lost another chocolate girl and the last chocolate girl is showing early signs. All the black and lilac girls with her are fine. I am now at a loss any ideas. They eat and drink well it is like they have lost use of one of there feet

the only thing I can suggest is to try a different antibiotic. Are they getting to anything that can cause this in their run area?

Is there anything in the house they could be standing on which affects them? Have you checked for nails/screws etc? Just a thought.....

is their perch too high for them or their entrance to their coop to high that they are injuring themselves getting out?

are you putting cider vinegar in a tin container? if you are you could be slowly poisoning them as it reacts! just a guess could be completely wrong?

It is a mystery they drink out of plastic drinkers everything has been virkoned . They have low perches. I was wondering if it could be something to do with the way the rare colours and they are bred.
