Title: I'm still worried
Post by: Honeysuckle on April 16, 2009, 15:48
I posted on here a few days ago regarding one of my Rhodies.  We bought 6  hens on Good Friday, only 1 is laying eggs at the moment.  The others are too young as yet.

The chook in question is listless, sits puffed up alot of the time.  However, she is still eating and drinking and her poo is 'normal'.  Her crop is fine (it's been checked both at the beginning and end of the day), her vent is clean and there's no sign of being egg bound.

The breeder said that the birds were vaccinated and wormed so I'm assuming worms aren't the problem either.

Could I just have a lazy, moody hen?

Is her comb bright red and upright if so it normally means they`re ok . If she`s in the nest box and she growls and pecks at you she may be broody. If she is doing it out in the sun she may be just sunbathing. They puff their feathers out and partly open their wings so the sun can get right in.

She obviously isn’t feeling herself poor girl. Do you know when they were wormed? If not I suggest you worm them again with Flubenvet also put some fresh garlic cloves in the drinking water.
