Title: Mili caught her first rat this morning
Post by: Oliveview on July 09, 2012, 14:22
She was nowhere to be seen this morning when I called her for her breakfast- she is normally the first in the kitchen.  After about 10 min she came into the house, I heard her scratching on her mat- I looked and there was a headless rat- a baby one- but a rat :D  at least we are sure it was a rat, it looked too big to be a mouse and itīs tail was thicker than a mouses tail would be.  Thank goodness it wasnīt all bleeding.  Mili is earning her keep at last  :D

My cat Henry brought a headless bird in for us last week. I found the head on the garden later on when I was just about to tread on it. I really wish he wouln't do it. Never killed a rat to my knowledge, he is probably scared of them!

sadly Puddle our tame feral cat just sits and watches them and never makes an attempt at all to catch rats  :(

The reason for getting a cat (or two) was because of the rats that we kept getting.  Our dogs (Jack Russell cross and a terrier type) both sleep outside, but do they go looking for rats at night? Nope, they sleep all night :nowink:  I think their kennel is too comfy, maybe I should take out all the blankets and make them sleep on the plastic or a bit of wood like a Spanish campo dog would do.

Miki bought in a very dead baby rat yesterday too  :D
Miki had a 6 hour siesta in the log basket this afternoon- that seems to be his chosen spot for the siestas at the moment.

Just keep some antibiotic cream for cats to hand (don't know what the Spanish brand names are), rat scratches and bites go septic horribly quickly and some time they are bound to get the odd bit of damage while hunting.

My friend gave me some Deanes Tea Tree ointment for cats/dogs, that is good.  Thanks for jogging my memory about it.  Miki is still in his siesta basket, he has been there for 5 hours    He is a real Spanish cat
